Lyudmila Dergacheva, BBC TV announcers’ rate of speech. Phonetics

Despite TV announcers’ articulation is clear and sharp, it’s difficult for non-native speakers to perceive information programs online because of accelerating tempo of speech. So this is raises the question about phonetic characteristics of recorded speech, speech compresson which is typical for English speech when it’s lack of time and there’s a necessity to give proper information.

The main goal of this research is to describe the most frequent melodic forms and features of TV announcers’ rate promoting proper information on the British TV shows.

So the objects of this research are features of TV announcers’ rate of speech in the news programs of British TV. The subject can be defined as function of prosody in optimization of communication based on recorded speech.

The main data is based on a video release of a BBC program that had been recorded in London.

And finally, it’s supposed if there’re any pauses in TV announcer’s speech, they’re very short and won’t be paid attention to.
